Streams Specialist II AZGFD

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is hiring a Wildlife Specialist II to join its Aquatics Program in the White Mountains Region. This position focuses on stream and riparian habitat management, native trout recovery, and sport fish monitoring across eastern Arizona’s water systems. The specialist will work to support conservation goals for aquatic wildlife and habitats.

Location: Pinetop–Lakeside, AZ
Type: Full-time, permanent
Closing Date: 11/23/2025

Duties include:

  • Conducting stream and fish population surveys using backpack electrofishing and habitat assessments
  • Assisting with native trout recovery projects, including translocations and barrier maintenance
  • Implementing stream and riparian habitat restoration projects
  • Managing biological data and preparing reports for statewide programs
  • Operating field vehicles and equipment safely in remote terrain
  • Coordinating with partners and occasionally supervising seasonal staff or volunteers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, fisheries science, ecology, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in fisheries or aquatic wildlife management
  • Knowledge of stream ecology, fish identification, and aquatic habitat assessment methods
  • Skills in electrofishing, GPS/GIS mapping, and data collection
  • Ability to hike long distances, camp in remote areas, and work in variable weather
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet agency driving standards

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with native trout species (Apache or Gila Trout)
  • Familiarity with aquatic invertebrate sampling and water quality monitoring
  • Leadership or field crew coordination experience
