Virtual Presentation: Tracking Desert Purple Martins
September 3 | 11:00 AM–12:00 PM | Virtual | Free
Join Tucson Bird Alliance Director of Bird Conservation Jennie MacFarland for a virtual presentation highlighting the latest findings from ongoing Desert Purple Martin research. Learn about their behavior, habitat, migration, and recent discoveries about their movements through Southeast Arizona.
It’s All in the Family: Shorebird ID Workshop
September 10 & 12 | Tucson, AZ
Led by Homer Hansen, this two-part workshop explores shorebird natural history, molt, and identification. Participants will attend an evening classroom session on September 10 followed by an all-day field workshop and birding trip on September 12 to put their identification skills into practice.
Cost: $125 members | $175 non-members
Brand New to Birding Field Workshop
September 26 | 6:30–9:00 AM | Sweetwater Wetlands
New to birding? This beginner-friendly workshop led by Alex Patia will cover the basics of using binoculars, finding and identifying birds by sight and sound, bird behavior, birding apps, and field guides during an easy walk around Sweetwater Wetlands. Binoculars and field guides are available if needed.
Cost: $35 | Limited to 12 participants
Advanced Birding Series: Sparrow Identification
September 27 | 6:30 AM | Sweetwater Wetlands
Take advantage of peak fall migration at Sweetwater Wetlands with a workshop focused on the subtleties of sparrow identification. Led by Alex Patia, participants will practice identifying sparrows and navigating the challenges of juvenile and non-breeding plumages during an easy walk through the wetlands.
Cost: $35 members | $50 non-members
