The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking a Wildlife Specialist Supervisor (Habitat Program Manager) to provide leadership and oversight for wildlife and habitat programs in Region 3. This position combines scientific expertise, program leadership, and regulatory oversight to support conservation and management of Arizona’s wildlife resources.
The Habitat Program Manager supervises professional staff and coordinates wildlife and habitat projects to ensure they are conducted in compliance with federal, state, and agency laws, policies, and procedures. The position plays an important role in guiding wildlife management programs, reviewing development and infrastructure projects for wildlife impacts, and providing science-based recommendations to support responsible habitat management.
Position Overview
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing federal, state, and local projects for wildlife and habitat impacts and providing agency guidance
- Developing and overseeing wildlife study plans, management guidelines, and program priorities
- Supervising and mentoring wildlife specialists and support staff
- Coordinating program priorities, workflows, and project implementation
- Reviewing and approving technical reports, survey data, and scientific publications
- Representing the department in meetings with agencies, stakeholders, and the public
- Managing program-related administrative tasks such as budgets, procurement, and reporting
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based with occasional field visits throughout Arizona. Field work may involve travel to project sites and exposure to varied environmental conditions.
The position may allow remote work within Arizona, with an expectation of working in the Kingman office 2–3 days per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field
- Knowledge of wildlife science, habitat management, and conservation principles
- Experience working with federal and state wildlife regulations and compliance processes
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Experience supervising or coordinating staff or projects
Experience developing wildlife study plans, managing budgets, or supervising wildlife professionals is preferred.
