The Great Basin Institute (GBI), in cooperation with the National Park Service, is recruiting two Seed Collection Coordinators to support implementation of the national Seeds of Success program across Department of the Interior lands in the Southwest.
These positions will work alongside National Park Service and other DOI staff to coordinate regional seed collection efforts, support field crews, and conduct native seed collections used for conservation and restoration projects. The positions involve a combination of field work, coordination, and data management, and require frequent travel throughout the region.

Colorado Plateau Seed Collection Coordinator
Potential duty stations:
- Flagstaff, AZ
- Moab, UT
- Grand Junction, CO
This position coordinates seed collection efforts across DOI lands in the Colorado Plateau and adjacent ecoregions, supporting multiple field crews collecting native seed from wild plant populations.
Southern Arizona Seed Collection Coordinator
Duty station:
- Tucson, AZ
This position coordinates seed collection efforts across DOI lands in southern Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, including the Sonoran Desert, Chihuahuan Desert, and adjacent ecoregions.
Position Overview
Responsibilities may include:
- Planning and coordinating native seed collection activities across DOI lands
- Hiring, training, and supervising seed collection crews
- Conducting field scouting and collecting seed from wild plant populations
- Coordinating with agency partners on annual seed collection targets
- Managing permits and ensuring Seeds of Success protocols are followed
- Reviewing field data for quality control and maintaining accurate records
- Supporting communication and coordination among project partners
Field Work and Travel
These positions involve extensive fieldwork and travel during the collecting season, including:
- 50–75% travel during the field season
- Frequent overnight travel and camping in remote field locations
- Operation of 4WD vehicles
- Long days working outdoors in variable weather conditions
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, natural resources, or a related field
- Experience with native seed collection, field botany, or vegetation monitoring
- Strong plant identification skills
- Experience with field logistics and coordinating personnel or projects
- Familiarity with ArcGIS, GPS navigation, and digital field data collection tools
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- A valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle
