Friends of Ironwood Forest (FIF) is a Tucson-area nonprofit dedicated to the long-term protection, stewardship, and appreciation of Ironwood Forest National Monument. The organization works through volunteerism, education, advocacy, and partnerships to help ensure this important Sonoran Desert landscape remains protected for future generations.
FIF is seeking a part-time contractor to serve in a Managing Director–type role. This position will work closely with the organization’s Board of Directors to support daily operations and help advance the organization’s mission and strategic priorities. The Managing Director will play an important role in guiding the organization’s administrative, fundraising, and communications efforts while supporting programs that promote conservation and stewardship of Ironwood Forest National Monument.
The position is primarily remote but requires residence in the greater Tucson area to allow for occasional in-person meetings, events, and engagement with partners and community members. The schedule is flexible, though availability will be needed for scheduled board meetings, outreach activities, and time-sensitive organizational matters.
Position Overview
This role supports several aspects of organizational operations, including:
- Coordinating with the Board of Directors and assisting with meeting logistics and organizational administration
- Supporting fundraising activities, donor communications, and grant opportunities
- Assisting with financial oversight and organizational recordkeeping
- Helping maintain communications and outreach materials such as newsletters, website content, and social media
- Supporting conservation programs, partnerships, and advocacy efforts aligned with the organization’s mission
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A strong commitment to public lands protection and desert ecosystems
- Experience with nonprofit organizations, fundraising, or organizational administration
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer board and community partners
- Experience managing multiple priorities and working independently
Experience with conservation organizations, public lands advocacy, community engagement, or environmental policy is desirable but not required.
