Position Summary
This is a paid summer internship supporting the Phoenix Zoo’s native species conservation programs. The Conservation Intern gains hands-on experience working with Arizona native wildlife, including reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, and invertebrates, while assisting with husbandry, fieldwork, research, and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily animal husbandry and monitoring under staff supervision
- Support field conservation activities such as surveys, transport, reintroductions, and habitat projects
- Assist with conservation research projects as available
- Participate in guest outreach and communication activities
- Complete at least one presentation on internship experiences
- Camp overnight as needed for fieldwork
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Current enrollment in a life sciences degree program (minimum 60 credits), or degree completed within the last two years
- Demonstrated interest in conservation biology and animal husbandry
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding outdoor conditions
- Ability to hike long distances and camp overnight for fieldwork
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must pass background check, drug test, and TB test
