Wildlife Specialist 2

Organization: Arizona Game and Fish Department
Division: Wildlife Management Division – Wildlife Contracts Branch
Location: Tucson or Phoenix, AZ
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent (Exempt)
Salary: $48,400–$55,000 annually
Closing Date: January 19, 2026

Position Summary
The Wildlife Specialist 2 plans, coordinates, and conducts professional wildlife projects in both field and office settings. This position supports wildlife and habitat data collection, analysis, reporting, and project coordination, with regular fieldwork and travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute day-to-day logistics for assigned wildlife projects
  • Conduct wildlife surveys and field investigations
  • Collect, process, analyze, and QA/QC project data
  • Prepare quarterly updates, annual reports, and summaries
  • Operate specialized wildlife field equipment
  • Assist with manpower and equipment planning
  • Travel in- and out-of-state, including overnight field trips
  • Work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in wildlife science, fisheries, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in wildlife research or management
  • Knowledge of Arizona wildlife, habitats, and conservation practices (Sonoran Desert experience preferred)
  • Experience with data management, GIS, GPS, and statistical analysis
  • Ability to conduct physically demanding fieldwork, including hiking and camping
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must obtain rabies pre-exposure vaccination and required certifications
  • Must pass background checks, E-Verify, and driving record checks
