Supervising Biologist (Authorized Biologist) – Knight & Leavitt Associates, Inc.

Knight & Leavitt Associates, Inc. (KLA), an employee-owned environmental consulting firm since 1989, is hiring a full-time Supervising Biologist to help lead and grow our biology program. This position is ideal for an experienced biologist who thrives in the field and enjoys mentoring others while supporting conservation work in the Mojave, Great Basin, and Sonoran Deserts.

Position Overview

As a Supervising Biologist, you’ll manage the biology department, recruit and mentor staff, write proposals, conduct wildlife and botany surveys, perform construction monitoring, and prepare technical reports.


Core Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow the biology section
  • Write proposals and bids for biological services
  • Supervise and conduct wildlife surveys (including for desert tortoise)
  • Assist with botany surveys and habitat monitoring
  • Oversee construction monitoring and mitigation
  • Ensure timely, compliant data collection and reporting
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, contractors, and team members
  • Promote workplace safety

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Biology, Wildlife, Herpetology, or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Authorized Biologist for the Mojave Desert Tortoise (USFWS)
  • Familiarity with Mojave, Great Basin, and Sonoran Desert ecosystems
  • Experience handling/surveying desert tortoises and other desert species
  • Clean driving record; ability to operate 4WD vehicles off-road
  • Comfortable hiking/working in extreme heat and rugged conditions
  • GIS and GPS (Trimble or handheld) experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general report writing
