Seasonal Biological Science Technician

Location: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Ajo, AZ
Agency: National Park Service

Anticipated Start Date: Between October 1st – October 30th, 2025
Employment Period: Approx. mid-October to April (subject to weather, funding, and project needs)


Position Overview

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is hiring a Seasonal Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) to support a variety of wildlife management efforts. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic resource management team in the Sonoran Desert. The technician will assist with wildlife surveys, habitat management, data entry, invasive species control, and more.


Primary Duties

  • Conduct wildlife surveys and collect detailed field data.
  • Assist with endangered species habitat management and data quality control.
  • Support wildlife management activities, including capture, handling, marking, and relocation.
  • Implement pest and invasive species control strategies, including pesticide application, trapping, and removal.
  • Enter and manage biological data using computer software.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (GS-5 level):
Candidates must meet one of the following:

  1. Experience: At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level (e.g., assisting with wildlife monitoring, data collection, resource management projects).
  2. Education: Completion of a 4-year degree (or equivalent) with at least 24 semester hours in a scientific field, including 6 hours directly related to the position.
  3. Combination: A mix of relevant education and experience.

Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) may also count toward qualifications. Please ensure all experience is clearly documented in your resume with job duties, dates, and hours per week.


Additional Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Valid driver’s license; some positions may require 4WD training.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Uniform required (uniform allowance provided).
  • Government housing may be available.
  • Must be capable of hiking in extreme conditions and lifting up to 50 lbs.
