Manager, Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience

Location: Flagstaff, Arizona
Position Type: Full-Time

The Ecological Restoration Institute (ERI) at Northern Arizona University is seeking a Manager of Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience to lead and coordinate forest health and resilience efforts across fire-adapted landscapes in the Southwest and Intermountain West.

This position provides leadership for restoration and fuels management projects, overseeing project planning, implementation, reporting, staffing, and partnerships. The manager will work closely with federal, state, Tribal, and local partners to support science-based forest management and wildfire resilience initiatives. Responsibilities include supervising professional staff and students, managing externally funded grants and agreements, and translating research findings into practical tools and guidance for land managers.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in forestry, ecology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field
• At least 2 years of relevant professional experience
• Experience with project management and/or supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background in forest or fire ecology and fuels management
• Experience with GIS, quantitative analysis, or landscape modeling
• Experience working with collaborative restoration programs or agency partners
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced restoration professional interested in leading applied forest ecology work in northern Arizona.
