Land & Water Program Assistant

Location: Southern Arizona
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,000–$50,000 annually

Position Overview

Arizona Land and Water Trust is hiring a Land & Water Program Assistant to support conservation projects, stewardship efforts, GIS work, outreach, and land and water transactions throughout Southern Arizona. This position works closely with the Trust’s Land & Water Program team and is ideal for someone interested in land conservation, natural resources, GIS, and collaborative nonprofit work.

Founded in 1978, Arizona Land and Water Trust has permanently protected more than 72,300 acres across Southern Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with land and water conservation transactions and research
  • Support conservation easement stewardship and restoration projects
  • Maintain GIS databases and create mapping products using ArcGIS Pro and related tools
  • Help coordinate workshops, outreach events, and meetings
  • Assist with grant applications, reporting, and funding research
  • Support collaboration with landowners, agencies, conservation partners, and stakeholders
  • Participate in field work and organizational events as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, ecology, geography, land use planning, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (graduate work may substitute)
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro/ESRI products and GIS database management
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Interest in land and water conservation and outdoor field work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with conservation, stewardship, or restoration work
  • Familiarity with Arizona water policy, hydrology, or real property transactions
  • Experience working with agricultural landowners or rural communities
  • Wilderness First Aid or similar outdoor safety training
