Editor-in-Chief – Wildlife Society Bulletin

Position Type: Independent Contractor (3-year term, with potential renewal)
Start Date: July 1, 2027

Position Overview

The Wildlife Society is seeking an Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for the Wildlife Society Bulletin, a leading peer-reviewed journal focused on wildlife conservation, management, policy, and applied science. This is an opportunity for an experienced wildlife professional to guide the journal’s scientific direction while working closely with TWS, Wiley, and an editorial team to maintain high standards of quality and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make final editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts
  • Oversee the peer-review and editorial process
  • Recruit high-quality manuscript submissions and develop special journal sections
  • Work with Associate Editors and expand the editorial board as needed
  • Write editorials highlighting journal news and topics in wildlife science
  • Represent the journal at The Wildlife Society Annual Conference
  • Collaborate with TWS staff, Publications Committee, and Wiley to support journal growth and success

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in wildlife ecology, wildlife management, wildlife conservation, wildlife policy, or a closely related field
  • Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Previous editorial experience with scientific journals
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with online editorial systems and scientific publishing
  • Knowledge of The Wildlife Society and its journals is preferred
