Position Summary
This is a six-month seasonal position beginning in Spring 2026. The Conservation Technician Assistant supports the Phoenix Zoo’s Chiricahua leopard frog conservation program and assists with other native species conservation efforts. The role focuses on animal husbandry, fieldwork, research support, and guest outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with Chiricahua leopard frog husbandry, including life support systems, water quality, feeding, and health monitoring
- Assist with daily care of other native species as needed
- Support field conservation activities such as surveys, transport, reintroductions, and habitat projects
- Assist with conservation research projects as available
- Participate in guest outreach and communication activities
- Complete at least one presentation on research, fieldwork, or husbandry experiences
- Camp overnight as needed for fieldwork
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences completed by December 2025
- Demonstrated interest in conservation biology and animal husbandry
- Previous professional experience caring for non-domesticated animals required
- Experience with amphibians and/or aquatic species preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding outdoor conditions
- Ability to hike long distances and camp overnight for fieldwork
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must pass background check, drug test, DMV check, and TB test
