Location: Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge (near Arivaca, Arizona)
Pay: $20.00/hour
Duration: 5 months (full-time, 40+ hours/week)

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Altar Valley Conservation Alliance, is seeking a Masked Bobwhite Technician based at Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge.
This position supports recovery efforts for the federally endangered masked bobwhite. The refuge maintains a captive population of over 300 birds, and with no known wild populations, the care and management of these birds is critical to the species’ survival.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily animal care including feeding, watering, and cleaning pens
- Monitor birds for signs of injury or illness and assist with basic medical care
- Assist with breeding efforts, including pairing birds and egg collection
- Support incubation, hatching, and chick rearing
- Maintain clean and safe facility conditions
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Full-time commitment during the breeding season
- Weekend and holiday work required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must commit to the full 5-month duration
Physical & Work Environment
- Primarily indoor work with frequent standing, bending, and lifting (~25 lbs)
- Exposure to dust and bird dander; some outdoor work in summer heat
- Use of ladders and routine facility maintenance tasks
Safety Requirements
- Required use of N95 masks during tasks involving dust and dander
- Completion of OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation prior to employment
- Fit testing and additional PPE provided as needed
- All associated safety costs covered by USFWS and AVCA
Compensation & Benefits
- $20.00/hour

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma
- No prior experience required
