QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in a biological science that includes the following course work: 1) at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND 2) at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects; AND 3) at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR
Applicants must have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a major in a biological science. This combination includes 1) at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects as described in “A” above; AND 2) 12 semester hours in zoology subjects as described in “A” above; AND 3) 9 semester hours in botany as described in “A” above. GS-11 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. The experience equipped me with the knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience includes: experience with strategic communications planning, implementation, and monitoring, experience with building partnerships to increase collaboration and support for bird and habitat conservation and management, expertise in website design and management, use of social media, and other communications tools and outlets in support of natural resource conservation and partnership building.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in wildlife biology or a directly related field.
OR
Applicants must possess an equivalent combination of professional experience and graduate level education beyond the second year leading to Master’s degree in wildlife management or wildlife biology which together equals 100% of the requirements.
GS-12 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have one year of professional experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: experience leading the development of a comprehensive strategic communications and outreach program in support of bird or natural resource conservation, including implementation, monitoring, and evaluation; experience building partnerships and relationships to increase collaboration and support for bird and habitat conservation, monitoring, and management; expertise in bird identification, bird survey/monitoring techniques, and bird ecology and natural history in arid landscapes, and the ability to apply this knowledge in the field; professional knowledge of advanced principles, concepts, theories, and methods of conservation biology and related sciences with emphasis on ornithology and migratory bird populations and ecology.

Your application must clearly provide evidence that you have served (1) year at the next lower grade level by the closing date of this announcement.Must possess and maintain a valid State driver’s license prior to operating Government-owned vehicles.Must obtain a passport and be able to travel internationally.Physical Demands and Work Environment:While much of the work is sedentary. the incumbent is regularly required to conduct on-site trainings and evaluations that include some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces in hot, dry, or humid environments; bending, crouching, stooping, or other such moderate physical activity; and boating in rough water. Average strength, agility, and coordination are required. Long days afield require considerable stamina. Heavy lifting may be required on an infrequent basis. Frequent travel, often internationally, is required.The work requires both office and outdoor work. The office is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Frequent travel by various means of surface and air transportation is required to attend meeting and to conduct field work. A variety of temperature and weather extremes may be encountered while in the field. The incumbent may be subject to large numbers of biting insects and may be required to work in close proximity to large animals such as bear and moose. He/she may need to carry a firearm for personal protection from wildlife. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property.
