Small Animal Keeper Intern (unpaid)

JOB TYPE: Part-time/Temporary

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Interns are responsible for the daily care of the Education Center’s Animal Ambassador Collection comprised of over 50 individuals. These animals include ferrets, rabbits, snakes, lizards, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and many more. Our collection comes to us from a variety of situations and help to support the Education Center’s messaging about responsible pet ownership and welfare topics while receiving quality lifelong care.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

18 or older with high school diploma or GED required. Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card OR will submit fingerprints for fingerprint clearance through the Arizona Department of Justice. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail. Must be able to lift and carry a maximum of 30lbs and perform duties that require lifting, bending, stooping, and other strenuous activities. Capability to work with animals of varied species including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Prior experience caring for and handling animals preferred. Enrolled in Biology or related field preferred, but not required. Requirements:Commit to a minimum of 10 hours each week for 4 months. Morning and early afternoon availability is a must. Shifts are available from 9am until 2pm Monday through Sunday. Intern will be evaluated on punctuality, professionalism, performance, and ethical standards.
