Aquatic Invasive Species Technician

Agency: Colorado Parks and Wildlife
Location: Glenwood Springs, CO

Salary: $14.50 – $15.50/hour
JOB TYPE: Temporary / Full-time

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Assist biologist in a variety of projects with native aquatic species throughout northwestern Colorado. Duties may include fishery surveys (backpack, jet boat and raft electrofishing, seine and trap nets), non-native fish control projects, stream reclamation projects, boreal toad surveys, water quality sampling, water sample analysis, equipment maintenance, and data entry. Work will often be on rivers via jet boats and rafts. Backpacking into remote work sites will be required. Requires working in sometimes inclement weather and physically demanding situations often involving long and irregular hours. Some weekends and late nights are possible. Extended overnight travel will be required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be available full-time May 2018 through October 2018. Interest in native fish and amphibians and working as part of a team are essential. Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife, or related field. Skill in guiding whitewater rafts is highly desirable. Experience with fish sampling, amphibian surveys and operating boats (jet boats, outboard motors and/or rafts) is preferred. Must be able to swim, hike, camp, and backpack. A valid driver’s license and heavy lifting are required.
