Incorporating Climate Change Data Workshop
February 4, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Flyer: 2016JAM_ClimateChangeDataWorkshop
When and Where: February 4th, 2016 Arizona Game and Fish Region 2 office, Flagstaff AZ
What: Workshop regarding the use of climate projection data offered as part of the AZ/NM American Fisheries Society and The Wildlife Society Joint Annual Meeting Workshop: Incorporating Climate Change Data (8AM-12Noon)
Instructor: Jeremy Weiss, Climate and Geospatial Extension Scientist at the University of Arizona
Description: Participants will practice aspects of working with climate projection data through both self-driven exploratory and prepared activities. We will cover multiple topics relevant to incorporating these data into wildlife studies, such as data selection, acquisition, and processing, as well as spatial and temporal analysis and visualization that incorporate graphs and maps. Also included will be the reformatting of climate projection data for importation to GIS and wildlife
distribution modeling software. Many workshop activities will utilize the open-source free software R, RStudio, and QGIS. Participants will receive digital copies of workshop materials, including the data and code used in the activities. Activities will be carried out individually, but we will dedicate time to small and large group discussion to further understanding of workshop topics. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to better navigate and apply the ever-expanding library of climate projection data.
