Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position will plan and conduct wildlife connectivity and wildlife-vehicle collisions mitigation research in various locations throughout Arizona working with a range of taxa.
Job Duties:
Primary duties will include leading field crews during wildlife surveys including road mortality surveys and desert tortoise occupancy surveys; maintaining equipment and managing logistics in preparation for fieldwork; maintaining trail cameras; office-based processing of image data collected from trail cameras; assisting in the planning and execution of large-scale collaring efforts for ungulates; performing aerial and ground telemetry.
This position will assist in preparing study plans, designs, and proposals; writing technical and scientific reports; presenting at professional meetings; entering and tracking field data; basic maintenance of databases and digital data collection applications.
This position may train and oversee interns and technicians. Assignments may at times require extended periods working and residing in primitive field conditions and operating a variety of vehicles and other equipment. Other related duties maybe assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The candidate will have knowledge of/in: experimental and scientific research concepts and methods; data analysis; technical writing; basic report preparation methods; data management and quality assurance methods.
The candidate will have skill in wildlife management techniques sufficient to perform duties assigned; professional standard data collection and analysis; digital data collection methods; application of data management tools; operation and maintenance of field equipment and vehicles; problem solving techniques; planning, scheduling, and organizational techniques; backcountry navigation.
The candidate will have the ability to: work as part of a team and as a lead during fieldwork; work outdoors in primitive field conditions; hike, backpack and/or camp overnight for extended periods of time in hot environments; work for extended periods on computer-based data processing tasks.
Selective Preference(s):
The ideal candidate will have experience with video and/or still camera surveillance systems including operation and maintenance, as well as experience conducting field work in extreme desert environments. The preferred candidate will have knowledge and understanding of behavior of various wildlife species and be skilled in species identification. The preferred candidate will have experience leading field crews during wildlife surveys, planning logistics for fieldwork, and managing field data.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a biology or closely related field.

This position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
