SALARY: $14.20 / Per Hour

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The seasonal wildlife technicians will be responsible for conducting surveys and research efforts for projects related to inventory, monitoring, management and conservation of aquatic and avian wildlife, with a strong emphasis on birds. This position will have the responsibility of operating and maintaining a variety of specialized equipment common to wildlife projects, including using standard and 4-wheel drive vehicles, binoculars, GPS units, and trapping equipment in field projects. Conducts office duties including field preparations, data entry, data review/editing, reading/production of maps and other office tasks as needed. May attend project-planning meetings, survey techniques training and perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must have knowledge of: general knowledge of habitat and wildlife field investigation, management and conservation techniques, species identification requirements in particular to birds by sight but in in general for all Arizona wildlife, plants and habitats, scientific data collection procedures, basic statistical analysis techniques, and variety of field sampling methods.The ideal candidate will have the ability and skills to apply habitat and wildlife management techniques, identify birds of the Southwest U.S. desert region by sight, set and maintain traps, verbal and written communications, camping and hiking while working alone or with a partner in primitive field conditions. Must be able to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays and at night and work outdoors in extreme and isolated conditions and identify wildlife in less than optimal conditions.The preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or closely related field and one year of field experience in southwestern bird identification by sight.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
