POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Ben Avery Shooting Facility is one of the largest publicly operated shooting facilities in the country. Our world-class shooting range is a City of Phoenix Point of Pride and has received a Five Star rating from the National Association of Shooting Ranges. Located on 1,650 acres in north Phoenix, the Ben Avery Shooting Facility and Clay Target Center average more than 120,000 shooters per year. The facility offers a fun and safe environment for shooters of all experience levels and strives to provide a quality recreation experience for all users.
The position will be responsible for ensuring safety at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility Main Range as well as assisting with administrative duties, assisting and providing information to customers regarding firearms techniques and firearms safety. The position will take phone calls, answer public questions and provide input to management on range conditions and improvements. The position will be responsible in collecting fees, performing safety checks, overseeing security, ensuring that the range facility is in good condition; resolves conflicts with customers and coordinates the activities of volunteers; represents the department to the public; provides maintenance, construction improvements and operational services to ensure the safe operation of the facility. This position will supervise the facility volunteer programs, including scheduling and event coordination. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate will have knowledge of methods and procedures of firearms safety and education information; knowledge of firearms and archery; construction and maintenance, or a related field; knowledge of firearms is essential. The candidate must be skilled and have the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of customers visiting the facility and successfully meet their needs; excellent communication skills with a strong customer service focus; must have the ability to work well with other employees and diverse user groups and resolve conflicting issues. The desired candidate will have shooting sports background experience. Certification/training by the Maricopa County Basic Dust Control is preferred.
Level 1 fingerprint clearance is required prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions. Medical/Physical examination will include a baseline blood lead level and a baseline hearing test, both which will be conducted on an annual basis.
Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
