POSITION OVERVIEW:
The position will be responsible for handling a wide range of emergency and routine communications from officers and non-commissioned employees, operating two-way radio equipment connected to a statewide microwave law enforcement network, ensuring safety of all officers and non-enforcement personnel via daily welfare checks on all active units. The position will dispatch wildlife related calls to Game & Fish officers and employees. Performs tasks related to answering customer inquiries received via telephone or through correspondence; interacts with customers interpreting program information, rules regulations, laws, policy and procedures regarding hunting and fishing regulations and other wildlife related concerns. Answers calls from the public regarding nuisance wildlife and provides advice regarding the handling of nuisance wildlife. Coordinates with other state, federal and local agencies to resolve criminal issues and in handling injury and non-injury vehicle/boat accidents, missing person searches, and other human welfare incidents and other emergency traffic via radio.
Assists U.S. Fish & Wildlife enforcement officers with ACJIS and NCIC inquiries and wildlife issues; enters, modifies, verifies, validates, retrieves and removes arrest warrant information from the NCIC/ACIC system; interviews citizen callers on toll free lines for hunting, fishing, boating, animal depredation, and vandalism violations. Researches and prepares criminal history background information for internal investigations. The position will operate and monitor a computer system, performs computer internalizing procedures; reviews input/ output data, produces reports from files, ensures computer output conforms with operating standards and procedures; monitors the security of Department properties and personnel using video and computer surveillance. Shifts will vary depending on staffing needs and will include weekends and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate will have knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles and processes for providing customer service and customer needs assessment, working knowledge of appropriate dispatching procedures, and use of communication equipment such as radio consoles, telephones, and computerized criminal justice warrant procedures. The candidate must be skilled to actively listen and interview, as well as the ability to convey information effectively, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems and deductive reasoning in applying general rules to specific problems to produce the best solutions or actions.
The candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality of information, provide clear communications via air to ground and ground to ground radio equipment, handle varying and unpredictable situations, including emergency and crisis situations, work independently and multi-task and prioritize tasks. The ability to have attention to details is critical to this position. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of dispatcher operating techniques and procedures including Terminal Operator Certification, Arizona Game and Fish policies, procedures, and Title 17. Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certifications are required.
A criminal background check is required prior to appointment.
Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
