Aquatic Invasive Species Technician

Agency: Arizona Game and Fish Department
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Closes: 3/30/2018
Salary: $14.50/hour
JOB TYPE: Temporary / Full-time

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This individual may provide office support for the AIS program and assist with research, including popular and technical publication review and fisheries and AIS program data collection. Assists in development and implementation of public interaction activities. Assists with development of public outreach information and reports. Assists in the maintenance of data collection and databases. Communicates with public. Collects and records fisheries and/or AIS program data. Assists in AIS program abatement and watercraft inspections and decontaminations. Operates, maintains and repairs a variety of specialized AIS program equipment and may operate a variety of water and land vehicles. May serve as a team leader for interns, volunteers and/or authorized agents.  Perform other duties as assigned.  This assignment is a temporary appointment approved for up to 37 weeks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate will have knowledge of/in: basic fisheries management; aquatic invasive species and abatement techniques; watercraft inspection and decontamination protocol.  The ideal candidate will have knowledge of operation, maintenance and basic repair of field equipment and various vehicles, four-wheel drive, trailers and boats.  The candidate will be skilled in communication with the public and applied public relations and problem solving techniques and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  The candidate will have skill in report writing, analysis and interpretation of field data collected.

The preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
