POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual and technical entry level fisheries/wildlife work in support of the aquatic invasive species (AIS). Assists program coordinator and specialists with all aspects of the AIS program. This position will assist in providing local technical support and coordination on aquatic invasive species abatement activities, evaluation and monitoring programs, and management of the AIS program databases. Frequently works alongside and collaborates with National Park Service (NPS) staff and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) staff regarding lake operations, AIS containment/abatement activities and fisheries management/angler use. Work products include: Watercraft inspection and decontamination data collection and analysis; watercraft/equipment inspection and decontamination protocols and training; AIS monitoring; provide AIS Specialists and Program coordinator with feedback and recommendations for operations and protocols in working with NPS and UDWR on boat inspections and decontaminations; proper maintenance and use of equipment including but not limited to 4×4 vehicles and mobile and stationery watercraft decontamination units; conduct education and outreach activities per the AIS Program Coordinator. Perform other duties as assigned. This assignment is a temporary appointment approved for up to 37 weeks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate will have knowledge of/in: basic fisheries management; aquatic invasive species and abatement techniques; watercraft inspection and decontamination protocol. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of operation, maintenance and basic repair of field equipment and various vehicles, four-wheel drive, trailers and boats. The candidate will be skilled in communication with the public and applied public relations and problem solving techniques and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate will have skill in report writing, analysis and interpretation of field data collected.
The preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
