The Arizona Game & Fish Department is responsible for managing Arizona’s fish and wildlife resource as an enduring public trust. In addition, the Department is charged with promoting safe and responsible use of watercraft and off-highway vehicles. Funding is provided from the sale of licenses and permits; watercraft registration fees; federal excise taxes on firearms, fishing equipment, boats, and other sporting goods; State lottery revenues; donations on State income tax forms; and various contracts and grants. Job Information
This position assists with field operations for the Department’s Boating Access and Aids to Navigation Programs to enhance safe boating and boating access on waterways to the public. Responsibilities include operation, installation and maintenance of navigational markers at more than 17 waterways in Arizona. Conducts day to day field activities with or without direct supervision. Travels to and from waterways transporting materials and supplies. Duties include maintaining and inventorying assigned equipment and materials, construction and maintenance of different boat and fishing docks and other boating access facilities, assisting with boating enforcement projects, record keeping and providing technical assistance to other Department work units and various local, state and federal agencies with water-related wildlife management activities. Exercises discretion in marking hazards in the interest of public safety. Safely operates a variety of watercraft, vehicles, and specialized equipment and tools. Completes and submits timely, required department records and documentation. Attends and participates in department training and meetings as required. Work schedule will vary depending on project demand. Position will require statewide travel and may include camping in remote areas for extended periods of time with seasonal exposure to hot, cold, and wet weather conditions. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The candidate must have knowledge of/in: boating laws and regulations; watercraft operation; vehicle (four-wheel drive) and OHV operation; truck and trailer towing; swimming and snorkeling; topographical map reading; buoy and mooring tackle installation in differing water depths; US Aids to Navigation System; sonar graphs, depth finders and GPS receivers; various power and hand tools; basic first aid and CPR techniques. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have two years of work experience in outdoor construction, maintenance, and watercraft operation.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid, state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
