RELOCATION EXPENSES: Relocation expenses will be authorized consistent with the Federal Travel Regulations and Departmental policy. The use of a relocation service company will not be offered.
This position is located at the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in Yuma, Arizona

Duties
Supervise a team of professional, technical, analytical, administrative support staff.
Develop long-range plans, annual work plans, budgets and work schedules.
Plan, manage, evaluate, and carry out the biological program of the Refuge.
Prepare Visitor Services Plans and administer the Refuge public relations/public use program.
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations involving natural resources program management.

Degree: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree with major in zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; and 3 semester hours in botany and 3 semester hours in conservation biology.

Completion of courses in an accredited college/ university equivalent to a major in zoology, wildlife management, or appropriate field of biology that included at least 9 semester hours in zoology; 6 semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; 3 semester hours in botany and 3 semester hours in conservation biology PLUS appropriate experience and/or additional education comparable to the completion of a 4-year course of study.

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, directly related to the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: knowledge of the principles of supervision management; knowledge and skill in applying a wide range of theories, principles and concepts of population and wildlife biology and wildlife management to resolve complex issues within a wildlife refuge; knowledge of natural resources laws, regulations, and polices including the National Wildlife Refuge Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act and program management; ability to administer the facilities and equipment management program; skill in preparing administrative reports and budget tracking.

Completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administrations, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
Requirements:
A background investigation is required for this position.
Completion of a 1-year probationary period is required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Position requires a good amount of time spent, outdoors when engaged in field work which involves walking over rough, uneven, and rocky terrain for long periods; crouching; stooping and possibly climbing/crawling. The incumbent may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme conditions including temperatures over 115 degrees, wild animals, poisonous plants and insects/snakes. The incumbent may be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
The work requires both office and outdoor work. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperatures and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner.
