This introductory training is designed for wildlife professionals\, students\, natural resource specialists\, land managers\, and anyone interested in learning more about Mojave desert tortoise biology\, ecology\, and field survey techniques. \n\n\n\nThe course combines two live online lecture sessions with a required one-day field workshop\, providing participants with both classroom instruction and hands-on experience. While completion of the course does not grant authorization or permits\, it is widely recognized as valuable training for those pursuing desert tortoise survey and monitoring work. \n\n\n\nCourse Highlights\n\n\n\n\nLearn Mojave desert tortoise biology\, ecology\, habitat\, and conservation\n\n\n\nGain an introduction to desert tortoise survey techniques and field protocols\n\n\n\nLearn about permitting requirements and agency authorizations\n\n\n\nParticipate in a hands-on field workshop in Ridgecrest\, California\n\n\n\nPractice identifying desert tortoise sign and conducting survey transects\n\n\n\nReceive a certificate upon successful completion of the lectures\, quiz\, field workshop\, and course evaluation\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\nOnline Lecture Sessions (Live via Zoom) \n\n\n\n\nFriday\, October 23 (12:00–5:00 PM PDT)\n\n\n\nSaturday\, October 24 (9:00 AM–2:00 PM PDT)\n\n\n\n\nField Workshop (Choose One) \n\n\n\n\nSunday\, November 1 OR\n\n\n\nMonday\, November 2\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nEarly registration rates are available through September 1. \n\n\n\n\nEarly Regular: $400\n\n\n\nEarly Student: $250\n\n\n\n\nAfter September 1: \n\n\n\n\nRegular: $500\n\n\n\nStudent: $300\n\n\n\n\nRegistration includes both online lecture sessions and one field workshop day.
