Recent policy changes have caused heightened worry among \nscientists. The mischaracterization of science as a partisan issue\, which has given \npolicymakers permission to reject overwhelming evidence\, is a critical and urgent matter. \nIt is time for people who support scientific research and evidence-based policies to take a \npublic stand and be counted. \nThe primary march will be in Washington\, DC\, but satellite marches are occurring across \nthe nation\, including in several Arizona cities. We encourage you to join your local march! \nThe plan for the Prescott March for Science is to have folks standing with signs on corners \nand talking with visitors at the same time as the city’s Earth Day event. DESCRIPTION:Archaeology Fair \nMarch 10th & 11th \nEach year the Verde Valley Archaeology Center hosts the Verde Valley Archaeology Fair\, the International Archaeology Film Festival and the Festival of American Indian Art held during Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month in March. Our events have been recognized as a “Premier Signature Event” of the Arizona SciTech Festival. These events are part of the Camp Verde’s Spring Heritage Festival. The dates for the 2017 Festival are March 18-19.

DESCRIPTION:Interpretive Guiding Workshop\nFebruary 25th & 26th \nThis workshop is an educational and adventurous opportunity to spruce up your guiding skills.  The course is designed to introduce prospective guides or those in the nature-based tourism industry to skills needed to successfully engage and interpret for visitors.  You will use tangible experiences to practice basic principles of interpretation\, making your programs enjoyable\, relevant\, and organized.  Upon completion\, you will have a basic foundation in the practical skills of quality interpretive programming. \nThe 2-day workshop includes a 6-hr classroom seminar and a half day of in-field practicum guiding under the direction of professional guide Trisha Travis. Anyone age 16 or over who desires to increase their ability to communicate and interpret for others will benefit from this class. #VRVNO \nInstructor Trisha Travis is a retired educator and has been an avid hiker and outdoorsman for many years.  Just about any activity that entails spending time outdoors is high on her list:  birding\, camping\, kayaking and canyoneering.  Trisha taught Hiking Fitness at Yavapai College from 2008-2015 and has an extensive background in higher education. \nREGISTER HERE: http://www.cvent.com/events/interpretive-guiding-workshop/event-summary-788ddd12abc74dda959b2e39d4f43a67.aspx

SUMMARY:International Dark-Sky Association's Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The University of Arizona’s School of Natural Resources and the Environment\, Arizona State University’s Global Institute of Sustainability\, Northern Arizona University’s College of Engineering\, Forestry and Natural Resources\, the Arizona Game and Fish Department\, and the Arizona Chapter of The Wildlife Society have partnered and are co-sponsoring the International Dark-Sky Association’s Annual General Meeting to be held in Scottsdale\, AZ\, November 14-15.  The 2-day conference will focus on “Impacts of Artificial Night Lighting to Fish and Wildlife Resources and the Mitigating Role of Emerging Lighting Technologies.”  This event should be of interest to anyone concerned about light pollution\, but it’s also particularly relevant for local\, state and federal agencies\, science faculty and students\, and others whose work involves natural resources and fish and wildlife conservation.  \nAs you will see from the program (link below)\, the meeting will bring together a wide variety of experts and authorities – including scientists from the U.K. and Australia – on this important and timely subject.
